Then, apply the "three-job test." Lay each item you want to pack on the bed and ask yourself: Can I wear this piece in at least three different outfits? If not, it stays at home.
Pack last – not first. First decide what you're wearing. Then pack.
Packing tip: Roll trousers before anything else and place them as a base in the suitcase. They won't wrinkle and create space for everything else.
The clothes: What really belongs in your suitcase
1. The linen dress – your most reliable holiday companion
If you only pack one dress, make it this one. Linen is the ideal holiday fabric par excellence: it breathes, keeps you cool in the heat, and gets softer and more beautiful with every wear. A good linen dress works from breakfast on the terrace to dinner at the harbor – you just need to change your sandals.

A good silk blouse is the best holiday investment you can make – because it can play so many roles. Open over your swimsuit on the way to the beach: first life. Buttoned up with linen trousers for aperitivo: second life. Tied over a dress as a light cover-up in the evening: third life.
Silk barely creases, dries quickly after handwashing in the hotel, and shimmers differently in daylight than in candlelight in the evening. This makes outfits interesting without a single extra item.
The most common mistake: Buying a pale blue or beige blouse that is supposed to go with everything – and doesn't really work with anything. Choose either a true white or a color with character that fits perfectly into your palette.
3. The maxi dress – a complete outfit in one piece
Anyone who has ever traveled with a maxi dress understands why it's hard to pack differently afterward. A dress is a complete outfit – no combining necessary, no decision in the morning. Just put it on, and your day is sorted.
What matters when buying: flowing fabric instead of stretch. Flowing fabrics conceal, flatter, and move beautifully when walking – especially in dresses worn on the promenade of Positano or in the alleys of Palma.
For those traveling with hand luggage only: A good maxi dress isn't an option there, it's a must.
4. Wide-leg trousers – more versatile than they look
